AAA District 5 recap October 8, 2013

Corbin Powers of McMinn County ran for the longest rushing play in AAA District 5 this season against Soddy Daisy last week. Powers' team bested the Trojans as he sprinted for 58 yards on the play and finished with 75 in all.

Ooltewah extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Bradley Central, 28-26. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

McMinn County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Powers threw for 161 and 2 touchdowns and Dre Hall had 74 yards receiving. On the ground Powers chipped in 75 yards. Clay Bennett helped McMinn County's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 56 yards.

Hall was the best wideout in the league this week as the Cherokees topped Soddy Daisy. Hall tallied 3 receptions for 74 yards. Bennett helped McMinn County's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 56 yards.

McMinn County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Cherokees feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Powers has thrown for 909 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Bennett has 24 catches for 265 yards.

Two of the top teams in AAA District 5 will go toe-to-toe this week when McMinn County takes on East Hamilton. The Cherokees' offense has recorded 124 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Hurricanes have permitted only 137 on the year.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Ooltewah takes on Walker Valley. Mac Bryan's team is in first place, while the Mustangs are in fifth place.
