Twentynine Palms is 1-9 against Indio since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Rajahs at 3:30 p.m. Twentynine Palms is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Twentynine Palms came up short against Coachella Valley and fell 8-3.
Twentynine Palms saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jandell Jiminez, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Indio had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. Everything went their way against the Trojans as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rajahs, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Salvador Guerrero looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Indio let Jose Rodriguez and Julian Mandujano run wild. Rodriguez went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases, while Mandujano went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Rodriguez is becoming a predictor of Indio's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 4-1 (and 9-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Garcia, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Indio hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.
Indio pushed their record up to 13-11 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Twentynine Palms, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Twentynine Palms has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Indio struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Twentynine Palms might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Indio in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
