High school football rankings: Jefferson finishes No. 1 in final South Dakota MaxPreps Top 25

Cavaliers capped unbeaten season with 48-21 win over Harrisburg in 11AAA state title game.

The high school football season in South Dakota came to a close over the weekend with 11-man champions crowned at the DakotaDome in Vermillion. Jefferson (Sioux Falls) was among the winners, capping a 12-0 season with a 48-21 win over Harrisburg. The victory helped the Cavaliers finish No. 1 in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.

Playing just its second season of varsity football after the school opened in the fall of 2021, Jefferson won every game in 2022 by at least 17 points.

In the championship game triumph over Harrisburg, senior quarterback Taylen Ashley completed 14 of 16 pass attempts for 203 yards and two touchdowns while running for another 61 yards and two scores.
