Baseball Game Preview: Pompton Lakes Cardinals vs. Wayne Hills Patriots

The Pompton Lakes Cardinals are taking a road trip to take on the Wayne Hills Patriots at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Wayne Hills took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Pompton Lakes, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, Pompton Lakes earned a 6-2 victory over Emerson. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Vinnie Stigliano made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Tim Riche was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Jon Popovich was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Wayne Hills' good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Ridgewood by a score of 6-4.

Wayne Hills' loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Pompton Lakes, their record is now 6-3.

Pompton Lakes was able to grind out a solid victory over Wayne Hills when the teams last played back in May of 2017, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
