Football Game Preview: Edinburgh Lancers vs. North Decatur Chargers

Edinburgh is 0-10 against North Decatur since August of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Lancers will square off against the Chargers at 7:00 p.m. Edinburgh has given up an average of 43 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Edinburgh's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against North Central on Friday. They were dealt a 71-0 loss at the hands of the Thunderbirds. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Lancers haven't been shut out since back in August.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for North Decatur on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Eastern Greene out of the water with a 59-14 final score. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Chargers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 295th).

Edinburgh better focus on containing Corbin Thackery and Matthew Fields as the pair were huge in North Decatur's win. Thackery gained 152 total yards and three touchdowns, while Fields threw for 169 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes. Thackery was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 50 yards. Hunter Meister did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 81 receiving yards.

North Decatur pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.7 points on average this season. As for Edinburgh, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Edinburgh was dealt a bruising 71-6 loss at the hands of North Decatur in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Thackery, who rushed for 106 yards and three TDs on only six carries, and also picked up 54 receiving yards and one score. Now that the Lancers know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
