Softball Game Preview: Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars vs. Palm Harbor University Hurricanes

The Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars are taking a road trip to square off against the Palm Harbor University Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Academy of the Holy Names faced off against Inspiration Academy on Tuesday. The Jaguars lost 11-5 to the Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Jaguars have suffered since March 23, 2024.

Ava LaBarbera was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Kacey Scott was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Palm Harbor University waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Warriors 3-1.

Mylie Stout spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jessica Baker, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Palm Harbor University pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Academy of the Holy Names, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Academy of the Holy Names took their victory against Palm Harbor University in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
