Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Crystal River

Crystal River had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came out on top against the Trenton Tigers by a score of 9-6.

Violet Flynn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Athena Childs, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Riley Castle also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Crystal River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Crystal River's record is now 15-4. As for Trenton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crystal River will head out to square off against Weeki Wachee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Trenton, they will take on Union County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Fightin' Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
