Baseball Recap: Cannon Comes Up Short

Thursday just wasn't the day for Cannon's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Covenant Day Lions on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 last Tuesday.

Bennett Miller was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Cannon and nudges their season record down to 4-4. As for Covenant Day, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cannon will venture away from home to square off against Pro Stock Royals Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Pro Stock Royals Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Cannon's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Covenant Day, they will take on Durham Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Durham Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.88 runs per game on average), something Covenant Day will no doubt try to take advantage of.
