Basketball Recap: Washington Comes Up Short

Washington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 24th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the North Pitt Panthers, falling 54-14. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pam Pack this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 51-28 back in January.

It was another big night for Zihanna Lightfoot, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds for North Pitt. The dominant performance also gave Lightfoot a new career-high in steals (six). Ja'Nautica Spruill was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Washington's loss dropped their record down to 0-17. As for North Pitt, their victory bumped their record up to 10-12.

Washington and North Pitt could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Washington will square off against SouthWest Edgecombe at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 488 places (565 vs. 77). Meanwhile, North Pitt (ranked 288th) will meet West Craven (ranked 129th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
