Preview: West Jefferson Panthers vs. Butte County Pirates
West Jefferson is 8-2 against Butte County since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The West Jefferson Panthers will look to defend their home court against the Butte County Pirates at 12:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: West Jefferson has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Butte County will arrive with five straight victories.
West Jefferson pushed their score all the way to 58 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Ririe 63-58. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Thursday (57), West Jefferson still had to take the loss.
Meanwhile, Butte County stacked a fourth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 62-40 margin over Carey. With Butte County ahead 33-13 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Butte County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brody Westergard, who scored 17 points. Braxton Gamett was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds.
West Jefferson's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-10. As for Butte County, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
West Jefferson ended up a good deal behind Butte County when the teams last played back in December of 2023, losing 70-55. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Westergard, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
