Basketball Game Preview: Pine View Panthers vs. Canyon View Falcons

Pine View is 9-1 against Canyon View since December of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Panthers will take on the Falcons in a tournament on Thursday.

Last Tuesday, Pine View came up short against Snow Canyon and fell 50-39. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost nine in a row.

The losing side was boosted by Ella Fiefia, who went 5-for-11 en route to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. She is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Reese Gustin, who shot 42% from the field to rack up 14 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Canyon View, as they earned their first away victory of the season. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 42-41 win over Crimson Cliffs. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won nine in a row.

Pine View's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Canyon View, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Pine View was able to grind out a solid victory over Canyon View in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 59-47. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
