Recap: River Valley Dust Devils vs. Salome Frogs
The River Valley Dust Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Salome at home and fell 50-10. River Valley found out winning isn't easy when your three-point shooting is a whole 32% worse than the opposition.
Kierra Clay was River Valley's leading scorer, having posted four points. Clay also led the team in rebounds with four.
Salome was led to victory by Kaniece Thomas and Grecia Leon. Thomas scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks, while Leon scored 24 points along with five assists and five steals. Leon is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Yareli Quiroz, who scored six points along with four steals.
River Valley's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-18. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.7 points per game. As for Salome, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 19-6.
River Valley will head out on the road to take on the Broncs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Parker presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Dust Devils in Arizona (the Broncs are ranked 97th, while the Dust Devils are ranked 286th). As for Salome, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Mayer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 on Thursday.
