Recap: Potomac Falls Panthers vs. Independence
The Potomac Falls Panthers put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 79-67 victory over Independence. Given Potomac Falls' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Independence is ranked 261st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Potomac Falls had a senior duo take command as Johnny Opiola scored seven points along with nine rebounds and eight assists and David Marshall scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The contest was Marshall's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Margenau, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Potomac Falls pushed their record up to 12-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.0 points per game. As for Independence, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Potomac Falls will play host again and welcome Broad Run, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Broad Run knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Potomac Falls likes a good challenge. As for Independence, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Lightridge at 7:00 p.m.
