Softball Recap: Sheldon Takes Down Ranked North Medford

Sheldon faced North Medford in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Irish put the hurt on the Black Tornado with a sharp 11-4 victory. Considering the Irish have won three games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Soraya Dorsey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Braelyn Stone and Presley Debaldo did most of the damage at the plate: Stone went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Debaldo scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Debaldo has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah McKibben, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Sheldon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.

Sheldon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for North Medford, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-3 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sheldon will take on Roseburg at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so the Irish's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for North Medford, they will square off against South Eugene at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Black Tornado are facing the Axe at the right time seeing as the Axe are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
