Baseball Recap: Grosse Ile Comes Up Short

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Grosse Ile and Melvindale, and Melvindale kept the tradition alive. The Red Devils fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 6-4 on Saturday. The Red Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cardinals earlier this season, when they won 7-4.

Joe Keenan made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three runs and two doubles. Grosse Ile is 2-1 when Keenan posts two or more runs, but 9-17 otherwise. Evan Brown was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Grosse Ile has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-18 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Melvindale, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 25-14.

As of now, neither Grosse Ile nor the Cardinals have any future games scheduled.
