Baseball Game Preview: IMG Academy Silver Ascenders vs. Dr. Phillips Panthers

The IMG Academy Silver Ascenders will take on the Dr. Phillips Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. IMG Academy Silver's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Dr. Phillips' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

IMG Academy Silver is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let DeLand get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Ascenders with their most commanding win of the season.

JP Piles and Carter Rivera did most of the damage at the plate: Piles went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Rivera scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Rivera a new career-high. Matias Castillo was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

IMG Academy Silver was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Dr. Phillips narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past DeLand 7-6.

Edwin Jaimes was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Diaz, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Dr. Phillips has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. The win made it two in a row for IMG Academy Silver and bumps their season record up to 7-4.
