Baseball Recap: Solorio Comes Up Short

Solorio had lost seven straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 8-17 to make it eight. They lost 17-7 to the Oak Lawn Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sun Warriors of the 5-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Sebastian Davila-Adames and Juan Barrientos stepped up to the plate in a big way. Davila-Adames went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Barrientos went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for Oak Lawn, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 21-12 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 contests by seven runs or more this season.

On Oak Lawn's side, Jack Westin looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Westin has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Peyton Melnik, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Jackson Hilger also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Looking ahead, Solorio will take on Marian Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Oak Lawn, they will challenge De La Salle at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Meteors will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
