Softball Recap: Lakeland Lakers vs. Concord Minutemen
Lakeland had lost six straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it seven. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Concord Minutemen. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Minutemen this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 on Saturday.
Lakeland got a big performance out of Rylee Amsden, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Kylee Waldron was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
As for Concord, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games.
On Concord's side, Allison Ralston spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Laela Moore, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Collins, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.
Looking ahead, Lakeland will venture away from home to take on Eastside at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Concord, they will welcome Northridge at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
