The Community Christian Cyclones are taking a road trip to challenge Ahoskie Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Thursday, Community Christian came up short against Mount Calvary Christian Academy and fell 42-34.
Despite the loss, Community Christian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Autumn Bradshaw posted 16 points. That was a full 47.1% of Community Christian's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Pierce, who had six points.
Meanwhile, Ahoskie Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 29-25 heartbreaker at the hands of Terra Ceia Christian. The contest marked Ahoskie Christian's lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Community Christian will need focus on slowing down Kaylee Jones, one of several Ahoskie Christian players who made an impact when they last played. She put up five points along with ten rebounds and three blocks. Jones has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Kinsley Dunlow was another key player, putting up five points along with ten boards and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Ahoskie Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.
Ahoskie Christian's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Community Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday's game: Community Christian has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 42.2% of their three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Ahoskie Christian, though, as they've only made 22.6% of their three-pointers this season. Given Community Christian's sizable advantage in that area, Ahoskie Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.
