Homer faced Nikiski in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mariners took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. The Mariners' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Homer had strong showings from Piper Fuchs, who had 23 digs and two aces, and Reilly Sue Baker, who had 18 kills, 14 digs, and two aces. Baker is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last nine games she's played.

Nikiski was led to victory by Abby White and Emma Hornung. White had 24 digs and two assists, while Hornung had five digs. That's the most assists White has posted since back in October.

Homer's loss dropped their record down to 28-16-3. As for Nikiski, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 38-11-5 record this season.
