Softball Recap: Palmetto Wins Going Away Against South Dade

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Palmetto walked away with it. They were the clear victors by an 18-7 margin over the South Dade Buccaneers on Tuesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.

Lauren Falls made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Madeleine Baldwin was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Jessica Ortiz was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Palmetto hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 6-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Palmetto has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for South Dade, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-11.

Coming up, Palmetto will challenge Coral Reef at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Barracudas' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. South Dade does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
