Basketball Recap: Whitehorse Raiders vs. Green River Pirates
Whitehorse's last matchup with Green River could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Friday. The Whitehorse Raiders were outmatched by the Green River Pirates and fell 84-55. The defeat continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hyatt Thomas, who posted 22 points. Another player making a difference was Dominic Dance, who earned 16 points.
Leading Green River to victory were Jason Hernandez and Rolando Anguiano. Hernandez went 8 for 14 from beyond the arc on his way to 30 points and seven rebounds, while Anguiano went 10 of 14 on his way to 29 points and five steals. Those 29 points gave Anguiano a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cristian Mendoza, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Whitehorse's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-5. As for Green River, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-5.
Whitehorse didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 76-32 victory against Monument Valley on the 8th. As for Green River, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-28 win against Altamont on the 4th.
