Preview: Marshall Rams vs. Churchill Chargers

The Marshall Rams will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Churchill Chargers at 12:00 p.m. Marshall is out to stop a 11-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.

Marshall pushed their score all the way to 63 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 82-63 bruising from Johnson. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Marshall in their matchups with Johnson: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Marshall saw an underclassman step up: Josiah Powell scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Powell scored 15 or more points. Aric Goodman was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, Marshall were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. This was only their 18th loss (out of 24 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Meanwhile, Churchill took a serious blow against Reagan on Wednesday, falling 68-39. While losing is never fun, Churchill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 422nd, while Reagan is ranked 137th).

Marshall has been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-23 record this season. As for Churchill, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-17.

Marshall came out on top in a nail-biter against Churchill in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 58-56. Will Marshall repeat their success, or does Churchill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
