Basketball Recap: Monte Alto Comes Up Short

After flying high against IDEA College Prep last Friday, Monte Alto came back down to earth. The Monte Alto Blue Devil took a 73-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of the IDEA Quest College Prep Trailblazers on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (65), the Blue Devil still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Monte Alto lost, don't look at Ricky Serrano. Despite the final result, he went 13 of 28 en route to 38 points and three steals. Serrano's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Ramiro Vazquez was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Monte Alto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Monte Alto has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-15 record this season. As for IDEA Quest College Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 16-10 record this season.

Monte Alto will square off against IDEA Edinburg College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Monte Alto is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. As for IDEA Quest College Prep, they will take on Vanguard Academy Beethoven at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
