Basketball Game Preview: Independence vs. Briar Woods Falcons

Independence will face off against the Briar Woods Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Independence ended up a good deal behind Riverside and lost 80-66. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while Riverside is ranked 18th).

Meanwhile, everything went Briar Woods' way against Lightridge on Friday as Briar Woods made off with a 61-40 win.

Independence's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-13. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Briar Woods, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-9.

Independence came up short against Briar Woods in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 62-54. Can Independence avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
