Softball Recap: Illinois Lutheran Beats Momence for Their Sixth Straight Win

Illinois Lutheran waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Momence Momence Athletics. That's more bragging rights for the Chargers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Lola Spada made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Emma Nagle and Mia Jacobucci did most of the damage at the plate: Nagle went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Jacobucci got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Azaylia Sanchez, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Illinois Lutheran's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Momence, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

Looking ahead, Illinois Lutheran will challenge Heritage Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Momence will be paying especially close attention to the Chargers' match: after the Chargers face off against the Defenders, they'll take on Momence again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
