Baseball Recap: Gettysburg Warriors vs. Hershey Trojans
Gettysburg extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 10-6 in the process. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hershey Trojans. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trojans earlier this season, when they won 3-2.
As for Hershey, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.
For Hershey's part, Danny Nelson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). Nelson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those doubles marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Bryce Erwin was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
