Basketball Recap: Cortez Comes Up Short

On Wednesday, the Cortez Colts were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 46-40 to the Desert Sunrise Golden Hawks. The Colts have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Tessani Montgomery had a dynamite game for Desert Sunrise, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. Those 21 points gave Montgomery a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shayla Hill, who almost dropped a double-double on nine boards and 11 steals.

Cortez's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Desert Sunrise, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 7-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cortez will face off against Yuma at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd. As for Desert Sunrise, they will square off against Coronado at 4:00 p.m. on January 24th.
