Basketball Recap: Lone Grove Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Lone Grove can now relate to. They were outmatched by the Madill Wildcats and fell 61-34. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Wildcats are ranked 18th).

Madill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luciana Douglas led the charge by putting up 16 points and three steals. Douglas has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Elexis Holmes was another key player, earning 11 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Lone Grove moved to 14-8 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points over those games. As for Madill, they pushed their record up to 24-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home.

Lone Grove does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Madill, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats face off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Ardmore's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
