Basketball Game Preview: Diagonal Maroons vs. Moravia Mohawks

Diagonal and Moravia are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The Diagonal Maroons will head out on the road to challenge the Moravia Mohawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Diagonal has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Having struggled with 11 defeats in a row dating back to last season, Diagonal turned things around against Twin Cedars back in December of 2024. They claimed a resounding 65-10 win over the Sabers. The Maroons' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Moravia rang in the new year with a 40-31 victory over Schuyler County on Monday. Given the Mohawks' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 239th in Iowa, while the Rams are ranked 486th in Missouri), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Diagonal's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-5. As for Moravia, their record is now 3-5.

Diagonal came up short against Moravia when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 48-36. Can Diagonal avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
