Volleyball Game Preview: Shelton Gaels vs. Pomperaug Panthers

The Shelton Gaels will head out on the road to face off against the Pomperaug Panthers at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

On Monday, Shelton made easy work of Hand and carried off a 3-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Gaels.

One reason for the win was Shelton's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-12, 25-7.

Meanwhile, Pomperaug got the win against Bunnell on Monday by a conclusive 3-0.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Pomperaug was: they took every set by at least 14 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-7, 25-11, 25-9.

Pomperaug's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. As for Shelton, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Everything went Shelton's way against Pomperaug in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Shelton made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gaels since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
