Basketball Recap: Oak Park-River Forest Comes Up Short

Oak Park-River Forest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They took a 57-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Willowbrook Warriors. That's two games in a row now that the Huskies have lost by exactly nine points.

Despite the loss, Oak Park-River Forest still got an impressive performance from Genevieve Simkowski, who went 9-for-20 to rack up 19 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. What's more, Simkowski also posted a 45% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Taryn Draine, who posted 11 points and seven boards.

Simkowski wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Oak Park-River Forest was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Ayaani Gusman was a one-woman wrecking crew for Willowbrook as she put up 28 points along with five assists and three steals. Gusman is becoming a predictor of Willowbrook's success: when she posts at least 15 points the team is undefeated (and 4-20 when she doesn't). Loralai Mcintyre was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Oak Park-River Forest's defeat dropped their record down to 3-28. As for Willowbrook, their record now sits at 7-20.

Looking ahead, Oak Park-River Forest and Richards will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Willowbrook does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
