Preview: Palmview Lobos vs. Nixon Mustangs
Two dominant guards in Jose L gonzalez and Mason Vela are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Palmview Lobos will be playing at home against the Nixon Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Palmview didn't have too much trouble with Mission Veterans Memorial at home as they won 56-40. Given Palmview's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 531st, while Mission Veterans Memorial is ranked 1146th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palmview got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Juan Dominguez out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Dominguez is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Ibarra, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Nixon had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.3 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 92-45 win over Roma at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Nixon has posted yet this season.
Palmview's victory bumped their record up to 22-10. As for Nixon, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.
Palmview came up short against Nixon when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 52-44. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Nixon's Uli Torres, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds. Now that Palmview knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
