Basketball Game Preview: Russell County Lakers vs. Monroe County Falcons

The Russell County Lakers are taking a road trip to challenge the Monroe County Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Tuesday, Russell County didn't have quite enough to beat Metcalfe County and fell 37-34. While losing is never fun, the Lakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Hornets are ranked 32nd).

Meanwhile, Monroe County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-59 heartbreaker at the hands of Adair County.

This is the second loss in a row for Russell County and nudges their season record down to 8-14. As for Monroe County, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.

Russell County couldn't quite finish off Monroe County in their previous matchup back in January and fell 48-45. Can Russell County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
