The Eagle Pass Eagles will head out to challenge the San Marcos Rattlers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Eagle Pass' defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They really took it to Del Rio for the full four quarters, racking up a 41-0 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 360th, while the Rams are ranked 923rd).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eagle Pass to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xavier Barrera, who rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries, and also threw for 127 yards and one TD. Luis Flores helped out on the ground, rushing for 85 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Meanwhile, San Marcos got the win against Canyon on Friday by a conclusive 20-0.
San Marcos' win came from a few key players Eagle Pass will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Frans Steyn, who threw for 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 13.6 yards per attempt. His passing game has become a key predictor of San Marcos' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-4 otherwise. Elliot Gray was Steyn's top target, picking up 103 receiving yards and one score.
San Marcos' defense made their presence known, laying out the QB eight times. It was truly a group effort as Trey Walker, Darius Davis, and Izayah Young picked up two apiece. Walker also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten.
San Marcos' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.3 points over those games. As for Eagle Pass, their record is now 6-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Eagle Pass has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 178.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like San Marcos struggles in that department as they've been averaging 173.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Eagle Pass was able to grind out a solid win over San Marcos in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, winning 40-32. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
