Stanton County faced Southwestern Heights in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Trojans fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 7-5. The Trojans' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Kaydence McCleary spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kynzi Fehringer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Valeria Ortega was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Stanton County's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Southwestern Heights, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.

Looking ahead, Stanton County is taking a road trip to challenge Holcomb at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southwestern Heights, they will take on Spearville at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Lancers have now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
