Baseball Recap: Clearwater Central Catholic Victorious

Clearwater Central Catholic was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons by a score of 6-2. The win continues a trend for the Marauders in their matchups with the Barons: they've now won six in a row.

Zach Wheeler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Clearwater Central Catholic got a big performance out of Ivan Lopez- Cruz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Lopez- Cruz a new career-high. Philip Skorewicz was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Clearwater Central Catholic's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-14. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clearwater Central Catholic will host Indian Rocks Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, they will welcome Tarpon Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
