Basketball Recap: Apostles Lutheran Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Aiden Kwak and Joseph Zhang

Apostles Lutheran lost against Calvary Christian Academy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Apostles Lutheran Falcons fell 55-46 to the Calvary Christian Academy Lions.

Apostles Lutheran's loss came despite strong showings from Joseph Zhang and Aiden Kwak. Zhang went 9 of 16 to rack up 24 points in addition to eight steals and five rebounds, while Kwak dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. Zhang is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Jeremy Bork was another key player, putting up four points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Apostles Lutheran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive games.

Calvary Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Cooper McCarty, who posted 29 points and six assists. That makes it ten consecutive games in which McCarty has scored at least a third of Calvary Christian Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Zamora, who earned six points along with five rebounds and four blocks.

Apostles Lutheran's record is now 6-10. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Looking ahead, Apostles Lutheran will challenge East Palo Alto Academy at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Apostles Lutheran is facing East Palo Alto Academy at the right time seeing as East Palo Alto Academy is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Calvary Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
