Preview: Troy Flying Horses vs. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Spartans

Troy has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Troy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 516th, while Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake is ranked 193rd).

Troy pushed their score all the way to 71 on Sunday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 82-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of Albany Academy for Boys.

Despite their loss, Troy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jamil Taylor, who scored 21 points, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Taylor has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Legend Merritt, who scored 17 points.

Meanwhile, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake lost to Bethlehem Central on the road by a decisive 52-36 margin on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake has scored all season.

Troy's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-10. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Troy won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, slipping by Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 68-67. Will Troy repeat their success, or does Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
