Santiago moved up to 890 from 938 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Garden Grove. The Cavaliers were able to move up by besting Savanna 10-0.
Garden Grove added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating University, 42-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Argonauts.
La Quinta's dynamic duo of Gilbert Napoles and Vinny Tran proved tough for Saddleback to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Napoles threw for 111 yards and 1 touchdown and Tran had 77 yards receiving. Kyle Do helped La Quinta's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 34 yards.
Rancho Alamitos's Nicholas Brown and Devin Velez have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Brown has thrown for 884 yards this season, while Velez, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 26 catches for 465 yards. Los Amigos's Jose Olvera leads the league in rushing yards with 528.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Vaqueros' Velez goes up against Santiago's Franklin San Nicolas.
Next week's game between Rancho Alamitos and Brandon Croft's team will feature an aerial matchup as Brown tests his arm against San Nicolas' defensive ability.
A big matchup in Garden Grove this week will be when Bolsa Grande takes on Garden Grove. The Matadors are currently in fourth, while Willy Puga's team is in first.
Mike Enright's team and Anaheim played the most contested game in the league this week, with Mike Enright's team eventually emerging with a 20-18 victory.
