Softball Recap: Forreston Takes a Loss

Forreston had lost eight straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-14 to make it nine. They lost 6-0 to the Oregon Hawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Kylie Dieterman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits.

As for Oregon, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.

On Oregon's side, Brooke Halverson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Halverson a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

Halverson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ella Dannhorn, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Dannhorn has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times she's played. Another was Alexi Czochara (2026), who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Forreston will be playing at home against Durand at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oregon, they will venture away from home to take on Byron at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
