Baseball Recap: Westlake Triumphs

Westlake posted their closest win since May 8, 2024 on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Lakewood Rangers 5-3. This was a revenge game for the Demons: when they faced off against the Rangers on Monday, they had to take a 6-5 loss.

Cole Jung made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since April 1st.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chris Campbell, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Jung, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Westlake lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Westlake now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Lakewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Westlake is set to face off against their familiar foe Bay at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Lakewood will take on rival Buckeye at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rangers 2.8, the Bucks 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
