Basketball Recap: Tippecanoe Valley Beats Kokomo for Their 11th Straight Win

Tippecanoe Valley came tearing into Saturday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 54-49 W against the Kokomo Wildkats. For the Vikings, this counts as revenge for the 59-37 win the Wildkats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Tippecanoe Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Stephen Akase, who posted 15 points and six boards. The dominant performance also gave Akase a new career-high in assists (four). Blain Sheetz was another key player, en route to 15 points and seven rebounds.

Kokomo lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Zion Bellamy, who on his way to 18 points and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Baris Moore, who to rack up 14 points and three steals.

Tippecanoe Valley's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. As for Kokomo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tippecanoe Valley will venture away from home to challenge Warsaw at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Warsaw will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Tippecanoe Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Kokomo, they will square off against Huntington North at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
