Baseball Game Preview: Sandhills Classical Christian Lions vs. Christ the Cornerstone Academy Defenders

The Sandhills Classical Christian Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Christ the Cornerstone Academy Defenders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Sandhills Classical Christian has given up an average of 14 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Monday, Sandhills Classical Christian came up short against Antioch Christian Academy and fell 14-11.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Christ the Cornerstone Academy). They never let Liberty Christian Academy get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Friday. With that win, the Defenders brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Ryder Truesdell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Christ the Cornerstone Academy got a massive performance out of Kross Locklear, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Haiden Glossner was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Christ the Cornerstone Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Christ the Cornerstone Academy and bumps their season record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Sandhills Classical Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Sandhills Classical Christian suffered a grim 16-2 defeat to Christ the Cornerstone Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
