Baseball Recap: Mooresville Has No Trouble Against R.J. Reynolds

Mooresville had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt R.J. Reynolds on Thursday. The Mooresville Blue Devils put the hurt on the R.J. Reynolds Demons with a sharp 13-2 win. Considering the Blue Devils have won four matchups by more than ten runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

KJ Gillespie looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Dawson Bennett was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Connor Robertson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Mooresville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as R.J. Reynolds only managed three hits.

Mooresville's record is now 5-3. As for R.J. Reynolds, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mooresville will head out to face off against Hickory Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for R.J. Reynolds, they are taking a road trip to square off against West Forsyth at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Forsyth will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
