Basketball Recap: Kinzleigh Reyes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sedgwick over Marion

Sedgwick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 37-20 to the Marion Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while the Warriors are ranked 119th).

Sedgwick lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kinzleigh Reyes, who posted three points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Sedgwick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marion only eight offensive rebounds.

It was another big night for Kenna Wesner, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds for Marion. The dominant performance gave Wesner a new career-high in boards. Shaliah Ensley was another key player, putting up six points.

Sedgwick's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Marion, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Sedgwick didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-16 defeat against Remington on the 17th. As for Marion, they have also already played their next contest, a 29-20 loss against Berean Academy on the 18th.
