Softball Preview: Goochland Bulldogs vs. Western Albemarle Warriors
The Goochland Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Western Albemarle Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Goochland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Goochland didn't have quite enough to beat Fluvanna County and fell 4-3. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Riley McCain was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. McCain was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kyndall Shapiro was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Western Albemarle came out on top against Charlottesville on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Warriors blew past the Black Knights 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Ava Hardy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Samia Bird, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.
Western Albemarle has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Goochland, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
