Basketball Recap: Sylmar Spartans vs. Narbonne Gauchos
Sylmar extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-3. They lost 68-45 to the Narbonne Gauchos. The Spartans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Gauchos from their previous meeting back in December of 2019.
Despite the loss, Sylmar saw an underclassman step up: freshman Payton Perez posted 11 points. Perez also brought in his first three-point shooting accuracy of the season. Another player making a difference was Ahadi Rannels, who scored six points.
As for Narbonne, their win bumped their record up to 3-5. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Branden Key was his usual excellent self, going 12-for-14 on his way to 28 points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 16.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Tai Roberson, who put up ten points and six steals.
Sylmar has already played their next contest, a 71-58 defeat against La Salle on the 6th. As for Narbonne, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 42-33 victory against King/Drew on the 6th.
