Basketball Recap: Henry Peprah Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Sugar Creek Charter

Piedmont Community Charter had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Sugar Creek Charter Wildcats by a score of 81-74 on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Patriots, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Piedmont Community Charter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Henry Peprah out in front who went 7 for 11 on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds. Peprah has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last three times he's played. Neves McElhaney was another key player, going 6 of 13 on his way to 16 points.

Piedmont Community Charter was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Sugar Creek Charter lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Aidan Gatewood, who posted 15 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Gatewood, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

The win got Piedmont Community Charter back to even at 5-5. As for Sugar Creek Charter, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedmont Community Charter will head out to face off against Valor Preparatory Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Valor Preparatory Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 matchups. As for Sugar Creek Charter, they will venture away from home to square off against Queen's Grant at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Queen's Grant is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67 points per game this season.
