The North Posey Vikings will face off against the Vincennes Lincoln Alices at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with North Posey sitting on five straight wins and Vincennes Lincoln on four.
If North Posey beats Vincennes Lincoln with three runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Vikings won by a run and slipped past Southridge 3-2.
Alyssa Heath spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Paige Vaughn, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Vincennes Lincoln was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against Bloomfield by a score of 7-3.
Vincennes Lincoln also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Bradie Turpin gave up three earned runs on eight hits. Turpin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Emma Cunningham was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Mia Hagood was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
North Posey's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Vincennes Lincoln, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
Vincennes Lincoln's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Posey has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Vincennes Lincoln, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given North Posey's sizable advantage in that area, the Alices will need to find a way to close that gap.
North Posey took their win against Vincennes Lincoln in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
